OK, so this is the first time I’ve done a cover reveal for one of my own books, but I though, why not? And besides, I really love this cover. I’ve been holding onto it now for a few weeks, desperately wanting to show you guys what the lovely Ravven has created just for me. She has an exceptional talent at knowing exactly what people are after. If you don’t know what my upcoming book is about, here is the blurb taken from its Goodreads Page:
Would death be less painful than life?
When she is sold by her father, Abbey discovers that nightmares can occur when you’re awake. Trapped inside a wooden cage, Abbey is forced to listen to the horrors and atrocities above; time ticking down until it is her turn. But Abbey isn’t prepared to become a victim; she will escape.
Although, what Abbey isn’t prepared for, is how harsh and unfair the world can be. With the sun turning its back on humanity long ago, life gives no opportunity. The only thing Abbey can do is learn to survive. To exist. And that means stealing any opportunity that comes her way. Haunted by the unpleasant memories bestowed upon her only nurtures Abbey’s paranoia, until she realises that to truly live in the world, she must confront the person who was responsible for her misfortune – her father.
Here Lies Love is a New Adult tale of actuality, of facing up to the fact that love comes in many guises. Can Abbey find the one glimmer of hope or will she be overcome with the darkness of revenge?
Here Lies Love is coming April 2014.
OK, so are you ready?
Drum roll please!!
Doesn’t it look fab! I love the colours and especially how vivid Abbey’s hair has come out. It was really important for me that her ginger (red if you’re American) hair came out just right, because it does get a mention or two in the book. These mentions may sound pretty boring and unimportant, but trust me, they are exceptionally important to what happens after.
I grew up reading Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series, which in all intents and purposes doesn’t have a single thing to do with Here Lies Love, but the copies I own all have a scene from within the book as its cover. I was sat here one day looking through my beloved collection of books and I thought to myself: “They don’t do that very often today, do they?” And that is where my idea for the cover come from.
Abbey’s inclusion on the cover was a no brainier really. She is the book’s sole protagonist. I hope I’m not giving away too much, but towards the end of the book, that is when the lighthouse makes an appearance, eventually leading one thing into another and the idea for the cover came about. But I can’t take any credit for Ravven’s creative skill and interpretation.
You may remember that I’m currently holding a competition for one lucky person to get to name one of the male characters in the book. Well the deadline is nearly up. That person will also win a signed copy upon release. To enter, head on over there now.
So I suppose the question is now, what do you guys think?
There are a few wonderful bloggers out there who are also revealing the cover for me. To them, I am extremely grateful.
